In Search of an Anti Aging Skin Care Product That Works
By the Editor | July 5, 2010
Attempting to locate an effective anti aging skin care product is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. There is a bundle of straw out there, but very few needles. The data here should make it easier to find something that works. First, let’s look at what doesn’t work.
Collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid are three ingredients that do not work when applied topically. The skin care companies Eare taking advantage of the consumer’s sparse awareness concerning those ingredients.
Collagen and elastin are simple proteins used by the body to make the elastic fibers responsible for the supporting the skin’s firmness. The body produces fewer elastin fibers as we age. So we start to see sagging. Reduced collagen output also causes the layers of the skin to become more clear, which is a major reason that older people are more likely to have dark circles under their eyes. Using a skin firming cream on a day by day basis can provide a significant solution.
Collagen injections are one of the most popular spa treatments for wrinkles. Elastin, hyaluronic acid and synthetic fillers are also used. The point of the injections is not to increase the the collagen production of the skin or in any way ramp up the growth of elastic fibers.
The shots are not truly anti aging skin care treatments. Their sole purpose is to puff up the skin’s fatty tissue layer, which stretches out wrinkles and makes fine lines disappear.
Hyaluronic acid is a compound naturally present in the layers of the skin. It helps to keep it smooth, firm and strong. The skin’s hyaluronic acid content decreases with age because of increased enzymatic activity. The enzyme breaks down the hyaluronic acid.
Topically applying hyaluronic acid will not help to fix the problem. The enzymes just break that down as well.
The collagen and elastin present in skin care products has been rendered ineffective by processing. The cells of the skin cannot use it. By now, you could think that there are no effective anti wrinkle creams. Don’t be demoralized.
Wakame kelp extracts inhibit the breakdown of hyaluronic acid, allowing the skin’s levels to rise naturally. The effect is improved smoothness & firmness.
The protein keratin can be processed gently, allowing it to maintain its function. Creams containing it have been shown to reduce wrinkles, improve elasticity and moisturize thoroughly.
The antioxidant coenzyme Q10 makes an effective anti aging skin care cream. There is some good stuff out there. You just have to know where to look.
