Natural Acne Skin Care from Diet to Cleansers

By the Editor | June 28, 2010

For natural acne skin care, you could need many things including dietary changes and gentler daily cleansers.

This article addresses the benefits of certain compounds found in deep cleansing masks and nourishing moisturizers.  You might not think that you need a moisturizer, but your dermatologist would likely disagree with you.

Benzoyl peroxide and other ointments used to “dry up” pimples also dry up the skin’s outer layers.  When the outer layers are dry, they are more easily damaged and irritated.  The irritation is a sign of underlying inflammation, which is one of the causes of pimples in the first place.

Even if all that you use is a gentle daily cleanser, you should use a good moisturizer after you clean your face.  You just have to be sure that it is a non-pore-clogging moisturizer.

Most of the moisturizers on the market contain petrolatum or mineral oil.  Those ingredients do clog the pores and they also cause a greasy feeling on the skin’s surface.

Plant-based oils are readily absorbed by the skin’s layers.  They do not clog the pores or cause a greasy feeling.  They are an important part of natural acne skin care.  One of the ingredients to look for is Functional Keratin.

Functional Keratin has “anti” inflammatory activity.  So, if you do use a strong ointment that could cause inflammation, Functional Keratin will stop the inflammation from occurring.  It also has antioxidant activity that will help protect your face from long-term damage, such as scarring.

It was not originally developed as a natural acne skin care ingredient.  It was originally tested for treating contact dermatitis, an inflammatory condition that can be very severe.  Later it was tested as an anti-aging ingredient and proved to be beneficial for that purpose as well.

The value of a deep cleansing mask is something that you cannot afford to overlook.  The best masks contain clay extracts that absorb excessive oils and pull dirt out of the pores.  They also contain allantoin, another natural anti-inflammatory agent.

One more ingredient to look for in natural acne skin care cleansing masks is active manuka honey.  It will reduce the number of P acnes bacteria on your skin, which will help prevent new pimples from forming.
