Natural Skin Care Recipes for Cleansing and Exfoliating
By the Editor | June 21, 2010
Here are a couple of natural skin care recipes for cleansing and exfoliating. Most of the soaps and cleansers on the market contain sodium laurel sulfate and other harsh ingredients that can do more harm than good.
They aggravate acne, eczema, psoriasis and other inflammatory conditions. You can make your own soothing daily cleansers with very little effort.
Grape juice is an excellent cleanser. The red varieties contain unique antioxidants that may help reduce the risk of heart disease if eaten and prevent wrinkles if applied directly.
Do not use grape juice that you purchase at the store. It contains added sugars, which are not good for your skin’s health or appearance.
Simply buy a bunch of red grapes. Slice two or three in half. Remove the pits and rub the flesh and pulp on your face. Rinse with water and moisturize.
The commercial exfoliating cleansers contain beads that can cause minor scratches that lead to inflammation and cause irritation. Oatmeal and baking soda is one of the best natural skin care recipes for exfoliating.
If you use one teaspoon of baking soda, use two teaspoons of oatmeal. You can mix a large enough amount to use throughout the week. Simply use twice as much oatmeal as baking soda. Sprinkle a small amount in your head. Add water to make a paste and massage on your face.
When it comes to deep cleansing (removing toxins from the pores), you need more than a homemade recipe can provide. The most effective recipe for pulling dirt out of the pores, absorbing excessive oil and keeping bacteria levels to a minimum is kaolin, bentone gel, allantoin and active manuka honey.
Kaolin and bentone gel are clay extracts. Clay masks have been used as natural skin care recipes for generations. Today, we don’t have to go out and dig up some clay. There are nourishing masks containing the extracts.
Allantoin is a compound found in sugar beets and comfrey root. It soothes and reduces inflammation. Active manuka honey has natural antibacterial and antioxidant activity. It comes from New Zealand and must be dehydrated in order to be useful in a deep cleansing mask.
So, while there are some natural skin care recipes that you can easily whip up on your own. Others are best left to the experts.
